Summer in Cape Cod

Visiting Cape Cod is one of my favorite summertime activities. We just got back from our trip a few days ago and I wish I could go back! We had an absolute blast with my parents and were able to enjoy the beach and eat endless supplies of seafood – which I now need to take a solid break from for, maybe the rest of the summer. Let’s just say, I need to stop trying to make myself like oysters.

Cape Cod is nostalgic place for me. I spent almost every summer there as a child, and many summers in my adult life as well there! We just got back from our trip with my parents a few days ago and we had the BEST time. Having that special time with my parents is so important and we enjoyed every second of our stay up there – I wish it wasn’t over! Driving up to the cape is one of my favorite parts of the vacation because you always know when you’re getting close by the amount of sand on the roads – something my sister and I always look forward to.

When I was younger we used to rent a house with my grandparents which was SO much fun. Now, my parents rent rooms at this amazing Bed and Breakfast called Brewster by the Sea and we stay there. We love coming back to Brewster by the Sea because they make us feel like home each time we stay. Every morning a home-cooked meal is prepared and served on the patio. The breakfast consists of anything from homemade blueberry pancakes to egg sandwiches on homemade croissants – it does not get any better! The rooms are all updated but very classic.

Our trips to the cape are always very relaxed because not much planning goes into them. The goal is to  enjoy quality time with family and play everything by ear, which is why these vacations are some of my favorites! On this trip I somehow managed to enjoy everything around me without taking too many photos too. Like I said, we don’t plan too much, but there are always certain things we always do year-over-year; like visit Mayflower Beach in Dennis, which we’ve now deemed one of our favorite beaches. Aside from the beach days, we spend a lot of time eating seafood and driving around the cape to other towns.

The first night we arrived we met my parents at Mayflower beach for a bit and then had an early dinner at Sesuit Harbor Cafe. This cafe is one of those places that really makes you feel like you’re in the cape – if you’ve never been to the cape you might not know what I’m talking about (so go!). There is fresh seafood being cooked up every second, and it’s all delicious. You can choose from grilled, steamed, raw, or fried options on the menu – and you have tons of time to decide because the line is always very long and it takes about 45 minutes to place an order. While waiting to order, those of-age are able to indulge in alcoholic bevies. Many people bring coolers and sit and drink while they wait – this is what we did as well. My parents found a table while Jordan and I waited in the line, like the good children we are!

You can’t really go wrong with seafood in the cape, and we always have great meals. Sometimes, in my opinion the more causal dining, the better. While I am starting to enjoy seafood more, I have a hard time with oysters and clams still. At Sesuit Cafe I tried an oyster again and EEK! I have a video which I will be sharing when I do the video from our trip – stay tuned for that.

The second night in town we ate at The Ocean House, which is always a great time. On the weekends there is a live band playing outside that you can enjoy while you wait for your table. The food is always really good there too (this is a bit more upscale FYI) and you can get a variety of cuisine, which I can appreciate. I can only do so many seafood meals. We always get to The Ocean House early to enjoy the band and drinks outside – I suggest you do the same if you plan to visit!

Our last full day in the cape it rained, almost all day, so we spent a good portion of the day driving around. We drove from Brewster, to Dennis, to Chatham and then to WellFleet, where our main destination was; The Beachcomber. Beachcomber is a dive bar in every sense of the word. Its a beach bar located on top of a sand dune in WellFleet. Visitors usually go to the beach and then come to the bar for drinks and fresh seafood in their bathing suits. I’ve only ever come to the bar from the drive up, but I love taking time away from the bar to run down the dunes and put my toes in the water.

It was pouring the entire time that we were there, but it did not ruin our time. We stayed under the covered outdoor bar, enjoyed fresh oysters, clams and shrimp cocktail and enjoyed our time together. This was my favorite day of our trip because it was so random! We even went to a pirate museum in the morning – which I actually recommend. Jord loved it! I know Cape Cod will be a place we continue to go each year, and a tradition that we carry on forever. I can’t wait to someday take my kids there and experience everything with them that I love <3
