Sunrise in Tulum
Waking up early on vacation was never something I considered to be fun, but now waking up for the sunrise is my favorite part of staying on the beach. There is nothing more peaceful than being the only person on the beach in those wee hours of the morning. Each day where we had an opportunity at a sunrise we set our alarms for 5:45am. We would always be a little tired later, but it was worth it!
I wish every morning could be filled with beach walks
Weather in the Caribbean is super unpredictable. Knowing this, I still checked the radar and weather before we left and I was disappointed when I saw that the weather pattern showed rain and clouds every, single, day. Of course though, when we got to Tulum it was bright and sunny! Silly Emily! I should have known that. On our first morning we got up around 5:30am to see if there would be a decent sunrise show, but unfortunately it was a very cloudy morning, which brought me back to my initial disappointment about the weather I’d seen before coming down to Tulum. I wasn’t kicking around sand or anything like that, but I was just mopey for a solid 15 minutes until our Huevos Rancheros came.
The next day we finally caught our first sunrise and BOY it so pretty! I literally rolled out of bed in my PJ’s (top and bottom) to make sure I didn’t miss anything. It’s so calming to be the only ones on the beach in the wee hours of the morning. We enjoyed walking up and down the beach on the cool sand, and even came across a big ‘ole tree sitting in the middle of the beach, which I proceeded to climb on. On this particular day we stayed out and watched the sunrise until it was high enough over the horizon that we started to sweat and our stomaches began to growl. I loved our morning routine of the sunrise followed by a big breakfast of Huevos Rancheros, Banana Pancakes and Eggs Benedict, and of course, the delicious coffee.
The following day we got lucky once again and were able to have another nice morning walk on the beach before too many people were out and about. I had planned to get in the ocean for a morning swim because the day before I had wished I’d brought my suit, but it was a bit too rough so I decided not to. Oh well! I brought along this top that I wore in Charleston because I figured it could double as a cover up if needed. I love throwing on crop tops with swim bottoms, it’s an effortless beach look that I could wear all day on vacation.
Mornings on vacation are so relaxing, I wish every morning could be filled with beach walks and a delicious authentic Mexican breakfast 🙂
