I Found a Pair of Overalls That Actually Fit Me
Before our trip to Charleston I had seen so many photos online of overalls, it was clear to me that they were making a come-back and all I knew for certain was that I desperately wanted to be able to wear them.

When I realized that overalls were coming back I was immediately brought to a childhood nightmare.
The first time I ever hopped into overalls as a kid was in the fourth grade. They were cherry overalls and it was twin day. I was twinning with one of my best friends and couldn’t have been more excited about matching – I love matching. Throughout the day though I remember feeling really uncomfortable and realizing that she looked a little different in them than me. The overalls fit her so much better, they were looser and it seemed like she had a lot more room in them when she sat down than I did; when I sat down I was uncomfortable. All day it felt like I had a wedgie. It was that day where I realized that not all bodies were treated equally when it came to clothing.
In this instance, my torso was much longer than Sarah’s. That day back in fourth grade I went home, took the overalls off, and immediately realized that my collar bones and my pubic bone were so sore and a little bruised from all the pressure on them all day (LOL). That day was the last day I wore overalls…unit this month.

While the inconvenience of my long torso has traveled with me throughout my life, there are specific situations where I can get away with rompers and onesies by going up a size, this is one of those situations.
I waked into Madewell a few days before we left for vacation, determined for these overalls to fit. I picked up a large – not even bothering with the Medium, knowing it wouldn’t give me enough room in my torso – and damnit they fit. I had just enough room in the crotch area to make these work, and before I could change my mind I bought them and ran home to Jordan so that he could share in my excitement.
If I’m being honest I was still unsure about them since they were a little short, but after having them on for a bit I realized that they would work just fine. I’m OK with short.
I wore these overalls almost everyday in Charleston, and while I can’t wear them right now because it’s still so freaking cold here, I’m looking forward to summertime when I can wear them everyday again!
