Celebrating Four Years of Marriage Today

As each year of marriage passes, when we think we know everything about each other, yet we learn something new. We focus on many qualities of our relationship, and there are many adjectives to describe how we treat our marriage. Off the top of my head;  Commitment, Trust, Compromise, Respect and Love. There are so many more, but these really stick out as being the most important to us right now as I write this.

It was literally the best moment of my existence

Marriage is a beautiful thing, but was always a part of life I was irrationally scared of. I wasn’t scared of commitment, I’ve always been so committed to Jordan – clearly, we were together 9 years before we got married. I was more in my head about the change happening. I was 23 when I was engaged, and had just turned 25 when we got married. I was one of the first of my friends to get married too, so it just felt so insane to me to be getting married! Some women dream of getting married their whole lives – that wasn’t really the case for me. While I had always looked forward to that moment with Jordan, I was nervous when it actually happened. I remember walking down the aisle, super nervous , but excited, tripping on my gown in the grass and just thinking, “WHAT THE HELL, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, IS THIS REAL LIFE?!” Then we did it, and it was literally the best moment of my existence. And now, here we are, four years later.

Marriage is an amazing blessing. Every year since we started dating – back in 2005 – has had its ups and it’s downs. There’s always going to be something to work through even if it’s he littlest thing; like figuring out the paint color for our walls – even though you both KNOW you want white,  someone wants crisp white, and the other wants a more dull white. Oh, or the struggle of figuring out which hue of light bulbs you should get for the apartment…this, my friends, is marriage. We have learned how to fight well together, how to show continued appreciation for each other, how to know when someone has a short fuse (so tread lightly) and what each other’s affirmations are.

Happy four years to my favorite human. I’m so lucky to have you.
