Villa Monastero

If Lake Como is not on your list of places to visit, add it to #1. Lake Como is one of the most scenic places I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. The views from every direction, whether you are taking the ferry from town to town, or walking down the side streets in the various towns, are breathtaking.

What more could you possibly ask for in a beautiful place, than 3 dollar glasses of delicious wine and a view

One of my favorite views on the lake are of the Swiss Alps – they are so close you can allllmmmooosstt touch them. Almost. Varenna is the town that we stayed in while on Lake Como, and I could not be happier with our decision. As you may not know, we used AirBnb for a good portion of our trip, and one of our favorite rentals was here, at Casa Stacy. We were situated in a small square called Piazza St. Giorgio which, along with the entire town, reminded me of the town in the opening scene of Beauty and The Beast! So. Much. Happiness.

On our last day, we didn’t want to leave Varenna for one minute, especially since the days before, we’d traveled to other towns by ferry. We spent a relaxing morning down at the lake front at our favorite spot, Varenna Caffe, watching the family of ducks that we fell in love with. If you could only see all of the photos we have of them, it’s a bit excessive. Anyways, at Varenna Caffe there was a waitress that we talked with each morning, so it was important to me to make sure that on our last day we spent extra time there, drinking our cappuccinos and eating our strawberry croissants – being very careful not to spill anything on my white dress 🙂

After hearing rave reviews about Villa Monastero, my main priority of the day was to explore the gardens there. Had I known how amazing they were, I would have set aside more than an afternoon to wander! Within the massive gardens, everywhere you looked there were bright and dense patches of flowers scattered as far as the eye could see – but one of my favorite things about the gardens, was the small bar situated in the middle! What more could you possibly ask for in a beautiful place, than 3 dollar glasses of delicious wine – with a view!

I’m already looking forward to the next time we can make it back to the lake. If you are heading there, and need any tips, send me a note!
